Martial Arts’ Loudest Voices that no one seems to care about
Martial Arts’ Loudest Voices
In the martial arts world, there’s always been a dangerous breed of individuals who hide behind the guise of “truth-seeking” while engaging in character assassination. They posture as watchdogs, guardians of legitimacy — yet their methods reveal them as little more than agenda-driven propagandists. Today, we address the ongoing and reckless misinformation campaigns by Don Roley, Dale Dugas, “Gearld Greysmith” (an online persona, not a real name), Ed Mathna, and Frank Dux.
This is not about opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
This is about lies, distortions, and manipulations that have been presented as “fact” about Mr. Bret Gordon and Mr. Steven Hatfield.
The Accusers and Their Playbook
Let’s break down the tactics:
-
Selective Facts – They take a piece of information, remove the surrounding context, and weaponize it. It’s the same trick tabloids use — isolate one line, make it sound sinister, and let the rumor spread.
-
Hearsay as Evidence – “Someone told me” is not evidence. “I heard from a guy” is not fact. Yet, these individuals repeat gossip as though it were documented truth.
-
Shifting Goalposts – When their claims are disproven, they simply invent new ones. They’ll never acknowledge being wrong because their credibility would collapse the moment they admit error.
-
Character Before Conduct – They focus on attacking people, not actions. This is the clearest sign of bias.
The Lies vs. The Truth
Lie #1: “Mr. Gordon and Mr. Hatfield falsify credentials.”
Fact: In every verifiable case, both men have produced legitimate documentation. On the rare occasion that information was found to be incomplete or inaccurate, they corrected it publicly — something their critics have never done with their own mistakes.
Lie #2: “They scrub websites to hide the truth.”
Fact: Website updates, corrections, and removals happen in every business and organization. This is not “scrubbing,” it’s maintaining accurate, up-to-date information. Pretending this is a sign of guilt is willful ignorance.
Lie #3: “They’re frauds because they don’t have recognized rank in XYZ organization.”
Fact: Recognition is political, not factual. There is no universal governing body for martial arts. Rank, lineage, and style legitimacy vary across cultures and organizations. That’s the reality — and pretending otherwise is dishonest.
Lie #4: “They lie about their training history.”
Fact: Both have a documented history in their arts. This isn’t speculation; it’s a matter of record. The burden of proof is on the accusers — and they’ve never produced anything but hearsay.
Calling Out the Hypocrisy
-
Don Roley – Positions himself as an authority on martial arts frauds, yet regularly engages in unverified public accusations. If he held himself to the same standard he demands of others, half his blog posts wouldn’t exist.
-
Dale Dugas – Speaks as if his word is law, but substitutes personal bias for actual evidence. He is quick to insult but slow to provide anything resembling proof.
-
“Gearld Greysmith” – Hides behind a pseudonym, which tells you everything you need to know about his willingness to be accountable. Anonymous slander is the weapon of cowards.
-
Ed Mathna – Parrots talking points without doing his own research. Echo chambers keep bad information alive, and he’s part of that system.
-
Frank Dux – A man whose own background is surrounded by controversy is hardly in a position to lecture others about truth and authenticity.
The Reality No One Wants to Admit
Mr. Gordon and Mr. Hatfield have been transparent in a way their critics never have. They’ve faced accusations head-on, produced evidence, admitted when they were wrong, and corrected the record. The opposition? They hide behind vague claims, personal insults, and manufactured outrage.
This isn’t investigative work — it’s targeted harassment disguised as public service.
The Challenge
If Don Roley, Dale Dugas, “Randy/Gearld Greysmith ,” Ed Mathna, or Frank Dux have verifiable, documentable, and provable evidence to support their claims against Mr. Gordon or Mr. Hatfield, then produce it. Publish it. Subject it to independent review.
If they cannot, then the world can safely assume what this has been all along:
A noise campaign by extremists who cannot stand that their personal opinions aren’t universally accepted as fact.
The truth doesn’t need a shield & lies
The question is — why do they?
